Have used JCE since 2011 and I still don't understand how to create a template from an entire article.

The Template Manager is able to create new templates from existing content, that is, the contents of the article you are editing/creating when the Template Manager is open.

OK, the template manager is open, I created a new template with "Template" as the type. I created a new article formatted how I wish. I'm missing the part where the new article becomes a template. Somehow the sentence that makes that connection is missing and I can't make the logical leap.

Please, please, please throw me a bone. 🙂

The template is created from the article content, so the content must exist before you open the Template Manager and create the template.

The content is then saved as an html file with the name you have it, and is available to insert via the Template Manager as content for new articles.

Ryan, I understand that. The content exists as a Joomla article. The Template Manager shows the new blank template, I don't see any way to insert the article content into the new template.

Here is an example of the process in the video below, using the latest version of JCE Pro :

1. Assuming the current editor content is what I want to make the template of, I click on the Template Manager button to open it.
2. Click New Template and give the template a name, eg: joomla
3. A joomla.html file is created. I can see the editor content is now saved in the file when I preview it.
4. For this example, I clear the current content, then open the Template Manager, select the joomla.html template, and click insert to insert the contents into the editor.

Many thanks, Ryan. This was so simple, no wonder I couldn't understand! My template button in my editor did only "Insert/edit template". I'm so used to Joomla making the simple, difficult.(Sorry for delay in replying.) 😃
