JCE Pro 2.8.18 released

This update fixes some issues reported since the last update, improves Shortcode Protection processing, and simplifies link selection in the editor when updating links.

JCE Pro 2.8 includes a number of great new features and enhancements and is available for download or to update via the Joomla Updater.

Shortcode Protection Improvements

The Shortcode Protection feature we added in JCE Pro 2.8.16, although a useful and promising addition, contained a number of issues and shortcomings, and after being alerted to a few of these by some of our users, we released JCE Pro 2.8.17 to disable the feature by default.

We have continued to work and refine the feature, after some consultation and assistance our friends at Joomlaworks and RegularLabs, and we think that it should be able to handle most shortcode use cases, from single blocks of shortcode to inline snippets alongside other HTML and text.

Because of the sheer number of variations possible in combining shortcode with HTML and text in Joomla content, this feature will remain optional, disabled by default, and should still be considered experimental. If you regularly use shortcode, and have a chance to test out the Shortcode Protection feature, we'd love to hear your feedback and comments, either on the Forum or Github.

The Protect Shortcode feature can be enabled in Editor Profiles -> Editor Parameters -> Advanced.

Link selection improvements

Selecting an existing link for editing can sometimes be unnecessarily difficult. Single word links can be selected by double clicking on the word (did you know this?), but where a link contains more than one word, a phrase or sentence, a selection must be made by drag selecting all the words in the link, or by clicking on the relevant a in the Path at the bottom of the editor (did you know this too?)

To rectify this, we've made the requirements for selecting any link much simpler. Just click on it. When you do this, the link will be highlighted, and the Link and Unlink buttons activated. Clicking the Link button to open the Link dialog, or toggle the Quick Link dropdown, and the link is correctly selected and waiting to be updated. No double-clicking, drag selecting or Path clicking required!
